Another gift from Mother Nature to Aliya Resort the Crimson Fronted Barbet (Magalima rubricapillus) also known as the “Mal Kottoruwa” in Sinhala, is a small plump arboreal bird with a large head, a short neck and a short tail. Green in color, the bird has a blue band down the side of its head and neck & gets its name due to its heavy bill and facial coloration.

These small birds nest in holes dug by themselves in tree trunks & usually lay two white eggs at a time. They survive on fruits & insects for their diet.
